The studio was exactly as I had left it. This sounds obvious — of course the studio was as I had left it, the studio was a room and rooms do not move and objects do not relocate themselves in the hours between one visit and the next. But the sameness of the studio was itself a thing I noticed, was itself a form of evidence, the room that had not changed while I had been changing, the space that was constant while the person who used the space was in the middle of something that was not constant...
